City Guide for Kerrville, TX

Welcome to Kerrville! This friendly, small Texas town is sure to have you at “hello”. But, first let's have a look at the local renting scene.

Kerrville is located in central Texas, about one hour north of San Antonio and two hours west of Austin. Though it may seem like Kerrville is in the middle of nowhere, there are a number of great small towns throughout the immediate area.

During the mid-1990s Kerrville was named one of the Wall Street Journal’s “wealthiest small towns in America”. Though there has been some population decline as many young residents moved out for job opportunities, an influx of retirees has kept the city clean and decent throughout the early 2000s. Kerrville’s cost of living is quite low, so there are tons of cheap apartments available throughout town.

In terms of entertainment, Kerrville is a magnet for amazing Texas music, from the radio stations to the local bands to the annual Folk Festival. Shopping, dining, and entertainment can be found in many of Kerrville’s locally owned shops and restaurants, as well as the larger chains located at the River Hills Mall. And, when it gets too darn hot to think straight, there's plenty of cool spots along nearby rivers, creeks, and lakes to spend those hot summer days.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a bad area of Kerrville. While there has been some increase in crime and drug-related activities in town, most neighborhoods remain safe and desirable day or night. There are also a lot of great, diverse rentals in town. Whether you’re looking for a studio apartment in a new complex or a furnished apartment for rent in an assisted living facility, you’ll be sure to find the right apartment rental for you.

To the southeast of the city center, you’ll find Schreiner University, a small, private liberal arts college. In the area surrounding the college there are a number of new developments that cater to both students and families alike. Many of these rentals frequently offer short-term lease options. Two bedrooms here generally range from $500 - $700.

Northern Kerrville is also home to a number of new developments, many of which are active retirement communities. Regardless of whether you’re a senior or not, you’ll be sure to find great apartments with tons of amenities, including a gym, swimming pool, and clubhouse. You can also find the occasional rental home in this region. Northwestern Kerrville has the added benefit of being on Kerrville Ponding Lake. Two bedrooms in this area generally range from $600 to $800.

Many of Kerrville’s apartments are quite pet friendly. New developments or senior apartment complexes may have limitations on the size or number of pets you can have, but overall you shouldn’t have too much trouble securing a new home that’s both cat and dog friendly.

So welcome to Kerrville! Enjoy all that this friendly central Texas community has to offer! See more

What to keep in mind when looking for apartments with balconies in Kerrville, TX

Balconies are a coveted amenity for many renters looking for high-rise views and opportunities for fresh air. However, you should keep in mind that balconies often come with restrictions.

Before signing a lease, ask about how many people can be on the balcony at once. Also, ask about whether you’re allowed to store a bike or other items.

You’ll also want to know about any maintenance schedules. Using your balcony as storage could result in fines and intervention from your property management.

Keep in mind that not all balconies are created equally. You may discover the views of the parking area are less than optimal or reduce your overall privacy.

Balconies can also get messy with debris, foliage, dirt, and pollen depending on your location. Renters are typically responsible for any clean-up and basic balcony upkeep.

Regardless of the issues to keep in mind, balconies are usually a big win for Kerrville renters. Ask about apartments on higher floors for the best views.
