Located in southeast Texas with a population of 11,546 residents and growing, El Campo is the largest city in Wharton county. The closest highway, I-59, curves around this idyllic and picturesque little Texas town that bursts with blooming wildflowers each spring. El Campo has long been a well established community. Incorporated on June 19, 1905 and prosperous thanks to the farmers that settled the land with corn, cotton, rice and hay, the modern day city of El Campo has diversified into aquaculture and petroleum products as well. This has helped to bring economic stability to the region, attracting companies and individuals alike to take a second look at what the area has to offer!
Everyone will tell you this, but we're going to repeat it for good measure: Avoid moving in the summer heat. It's always hot in Texas, but it's the most intense in the summer. Friendship Park is a favorite spot for relaxing beneath a Red Mulberry with a good book or just for an afternoon leg stretch with your buddies.
New Taiton / Jones Creek: Are you looking for an apartment for rent in El Campo that is set slightly back from the city center, affording a bit more privacy in a lush and rural setting? If so, then this is the area you will find most appealing! With Hwy 71 bisecting this large neighborhood, it's an easy and short commute into the center of town for work and play. The area has duplexes for rent, small- to medium-size houses for rent (think one to three bedrooms max), some of which were built between 1940 and 1969.
When you live in El Campo, you get used to loving life in a hurry. What is both a quiet and exciting little city El Campo settles into your system a the perfect pace. Friends often meet up at Muldoons Saloon & Dance Hall on W. Railroad St. for some Friday night dancing or a friendly game of pool. During the workweek, the popular Greek Brothers Oyster Bar & Grille on S. Mechanic St. has the best happy-hour in town, and oysters so fresh, you can't help but look for a pearl. One last local favorite (yes, we know we've talked a lot of food already) is Prasek's Hillje Smokehouse. Folks come from miles around for this meat, and stay loyal customers for generations.
