East Liverpool is historically referred to as the "Pottery Capital of the World" due to the more than 300 potteries that have made the city their home. In fact, he city once produced roughly half of all pottery manufactured in the United States. Of those 300 potteries, only 3 remain in operation today. East Liverpool offers a lot more than just pottery. The town went through several name changes before finally settling on the city's current name. The original name in 1802 was St. Clair, named after the governor of the Northwest Territory, Arthur St. Clair. Between 1802 and 1816 many residents called the city Fawcettstown, until the name was changed to Liverpool in 1816. The name arrived at what it still is today, East Liverpool, in 1834 when another town named Liverpool in the eastern part of Ohio (which is no longer called Liverpool) complained of using the same name as their town. East Liverpool also has taxi service throughout the city provided by locally operated Tri State Cab, and is also serviced by several other companies which are located outside of the city limits. If you own a boat, then the nearby Ohio River could be a great alternative form of transportation, just think of all the traffic you'd miss.

East Liverpool very much offers residents that small town feel, but with a location between Cleveland and Pittsburgh that offers easy access to metropolitan areas as needed. Just taking a stroll around town can be pleasing for the eyes, especially since the city decided to add Great Depression era light posts, along with the reconstruction of the high school clock tower, and the addition of Devon's Diamond, a new town center. Little Beaver Creek is a favorite destination for locals looking for a good swimming spot, canoeing, kayaking and hiking. The creek feeds directly into the much larger Ohio River, and is mostly under scenic easement, meaning it will not be developed, leaving the perfect spot for nature lovers. Overall the low cost of living and the many amenities make East Liverpool a great place to live.
