Gardnerville is a small but sophisticated town in the Carson Valley territory just outside of Lake Tahoe and its surrounding hills. Just over 5,600 people call it home, living in apartments in the quaint downtown area or in several suburban neighborhoods nearby. It's just on U.S. Route 395, connecting to Carson City in the north, Yosemite National Forest in the south and eventually the greater Los Angeles area further south.
Moving to Gardnerville
As with any search for an apartment or a rental house, you'll want to have all of your personal identity information, proof of employment and 10-year rental history handy when you look for a home in Gardnerville. The entire region is a green valley in the hot Nevada desert with very mild winters and warm, dry summers. You'll want to make sure your car is suitable for driving in dusty conditions, and if you're from a cooler, wetter climate, you'll have to make a habit of hydrating more than usual (hint: keep a bottle of water close by).
Antiques Streets and New Homes
Downtown: Gardnerville's downtown area is geographically and tonally distinct from the quiet suburban neighborhoods that surround it. U.S. Highway 395 cuts right through the center of town and doubles as the main street, offering high-density living, ranging from one bedroom apartments for rent above shops to condominium and apartment complexes just off the highway. This is also where you'll find Gardnerville's local eateries, churches, historical landmarks and distinctive, red-roofed schools.
Northeast: The largest suburban part of town is a northeastern area of newer, single-family townhouses for rent and other, larger homes that fan out in a series of long streets and cul-de-sacs. This neighborhood enjoys a bit more rural greenery and the beautifully designed, star-shaped Stodick Park. There's also a far-flung apartment rental development on the far south end of town around the Virginia Ranch area that includes a mix of apartment homes and small offices.
Hidden Gems
Gardnerville has a secret stash of hobby space and entertainment. Downtown hosts some fun antique shops and art galleries, not to mention some high-end eats that make it more than just another small town. J T Basque Bar and Dining Room is a highly evolved gastro pub that elevates the standard burger and beer experience, while international fare like Thai Jasmine keeps things interesting. There are also top-quality restaurants and attractions just up the road in Minden.
Being so close to the mountains and Lake Tahoe, Gardnerville is on the doorstep of a lot of the great outdoors. If you decide to make the move to the area, be sure to grab a fishing license and get familiar with the prime vacation spots around the gorgeous lake, or maybe look into some refreshing winter sports and biking up in the hills.
Gardnerville has the best of Nevada's two geographic worlds. It has the easy pace and never-cold weather of the desert but the beautiful scenery of the mountains. You can choose between main street apartment living, quiet suburbs nearby or even a more rural experience, all with easy access to the best spots of Southern California and the American Southwest.
