Evergreen, Montana, is just minutes from the Montana chapter of the interesting Rails-to-Trails project, a unique project that took old, decommissioned railway tracks and turned them into bike trails, a novel way to "up-cycle" these obsolete relics. Access to the trailhead is via South Meridian Rd, and visitors can bike or walk the trails to their hearts' content for many hours, under underpasses and through some of the most spectacular countryside anywhere.

Moving to Evergreen
Cost of Living
If you're moving into the area from elsewhere in Montana, be prepared for sticker shock: the cost of living here is high compared to most of the state, and you'll find life is a tad more expensive in the Flathead Valley. That said, if you're moving from outside Montana, chances are you'll be pleasantly surprised: compared to the national median, the cost of living in Evergreen is significantly lower. Rental property follows the same trend, with the average monthly rate being higher than in most of Montana but lower than the national median. Evergreen does not have any really bad areas you need to avoid, and the crime rate is pretty low.
Pet-friendly?
Be warned: finding places to rent that allow pets is tricky. If you're bringing Slytherin, the boa constrictor, or even just Fluffy, the fox terrier, ask potential landlords whether they will accept a pet-deposit in order to allow your pet to stay.
Evergreen Neighborhoods
Evergreen is not strictly speaking a town at all, but a CDP (census-defined place), and it is within the city limits of Kalispell, making it essentially a neighborhood of Kalispell itself. It does not have any defined neighborhoods of its own, and when searching online for rental properties or local attractions, don't be too surprised when you find that they are listed under Kalispell rather than Evergreen, despite being located in the Evergreen area. Talk about stealing all the limelight! But good thing Evergreen has saved all the good stuff for itself.
Life in Evergreen
Like much of Montana, Evergreen enjoys beautiful weather in summer and long, cold winters with several feet of snow. Flathead Valley boasts some of the most stunning, rugged Montana wilderness anywhere, making Evergreen a fantastic place to live for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking, cycling, fly fishing, hunting -- if it's an outdoorsy, wilderness-type of adventure it's probably popular in Evergreen. Spend a weekend hiking in Lone Pine State Park, or take a hot air balloon ride. Go for a drive along the engineering feat that is the Going-to-the-Sun Road through Glacier National Park. Cycle or walk the Rails-to-Trails tracks or go fly fishing on the Flathead River. Visit Wild Horse Island on Flathead Lake, and on your return, pick wild cherries along the shores of the lake. If you're really feeling brave, take the Polar Bear Plunge into the lake on New Year's Day along with other brave souls.
For an outdoor adventure of a more laid-back variety, visit Woodland Park (just outside the town's borders), a perfect place for a day of fun and relaxing in the sun -- and pick up some amazing pizza from Moose's Saloon on the way back home. For more laid-back fun, there's Village Greens Golf Course to the west of town and three campgrounds in town -- Rocky Mountain Hi Campground, Spruce Park on the River and White Birch.
If eating your way around town is more your thing, there's Cislo's Restaurant, where everyone loves the cheerful servers, Los Caporales, and Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, where everyone loves the pancakes for breakfast and sirloin steak for dinner.
