If you live in East Falmouth, you'll be in good company. Actor Casey Affleck, major league baseball player Steve Cishek and author Katharine Lee Bates were all born in the area.
East Falmouth isn't technically a town in its own right, but is a census designated place. Technically, it's a suburb of the city of Falmouth, so if you run out of things to do in East Falmouth, there's always the rest of the town to explore. East Falmouth covers roughly six square miles and its population was 6,038 at the 2010 census, so it's a relatively sizeable place with plenty to offer.
Moving to East Falmouth
The rental property market is booming in the area, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding somewhere to live. Even so, it's wise to allow yourself four weeks, at the very least, to locate the ideal rental housing in East Falmouth. Leave things too late and you might find yourself bunking in somebody's boathouse until a suitable home comes on the market. Renting an apartment is a little bit harder than renting a house, but it's not an impossibility, so just make sure you give yourself a few extra weeks to find the right place for you. Your landlord will probably want to see your proof of income, credit history and rental history before you can move in, so if you have all these things ready to go, it'll speed the process up once you do find the home you want to rent.
East Falmouth's Neighborhoods
East Falmouth is separated by tidal creeks into four "necks," which means the area is naturally divided into four neighborhoods. It also means there's a lot of waterfront properties, so if you don't swim, you'd better dig out those water wings.
Seacoast Shores: This is the most densely populated of East Falmouth's neighborhoods. If you're looking for one-bedroom apartments for rent, this is where you're most likely to find them. All residents have access to a private beach.
Menauhant: This small neighborhood is the priciest in East Falmouth, containing mostly large houses. It's located due North of Martha's Vineyard's Vineyard Haven Harbor and is home to the Menauhant Yacht Club.
Davisville: While there are a few shops and eateries in this neighborhood, it's ideal for lovers of green space. You'll find Sea Farms Marsh and the Donald Whelden Preserve in this area.
Acapesket: This area has a real community feeling, with a community recreation complex and a number of neighborhood events organized throughout the year. You'll find some historic properties and a good number of waterfront homes.
Living in East Falmouth
Located in the famous Cape Cod area of Massachusetts, East Falmouth is a truly stunning place to live. Even if there wasn't much to do, you'd probably be able to entertain yourself by marveling in the area's outstanding natural beauty. However, you won't have to find out if that's true, as you'll find plenty to see and do in the area. While East Falmouth is mostly a residential area, there are still a number of independent shops, local eateries (seafood is a specialty, for obvious reasons) and recreational facilities. However, if you go just a little way into other parts of Falmouth, there's much more happening. Falmouth Cinema Pub is a great place to catch a movie and grab a bite to eat. The College Light Opera Company puts on nine annual shows at the Highfield Theatre. If you like getting wet and wild, rent a canoe or kayak and get out in the water. At certain times of year, you can even go out on whale watching boats.
