The city of Chanute is the largest city within Neosho County, Kansas. The 2010 census established the population to be just over 9,000. The city has a total area of 7.15 square miles. Average annual high temperatures for the area of around 90 degrees fall in July, and the annual average lows of 21 degrees occur in January. The main occupation in the vicinity is manufacturing, with construction and retail trade being responsible for most of the other jobs.
As you'd probably expect, most homes are owned, but finding rental homes in Chanute doesn't really pose much of a challenge. The cost of living for the city is low - far lower than both the state and the national average. The amount of time you leave to find a house rental is entirely up to you. Just don't leave it to the last moment when it's more than probable that your stress levels will hit the roof during a frenzied rental housing search.
When you do begin your search, don't be expecting to find a plethora of rental apts in Chanute. It's mostly houses that are being offered, though you may be fortunate enough to come across a few apartments if you give yourself enough time to conduct the search.
Much of the rental property in Chanute, as you'll find, is on the large side. That's not to say it's pricey to rent here - it's certainly not! If you want a place with expansive views of the enclosing countryside, really, you can't go far wrong by relocating to this vicinity.
Chase Road: Chase Road is a super place to reside if you enjoy the fresh air of country life. If you like to hunt, than the surrounding meadows with their creeks and ponds is the hunter's paradise!
S. Evergreen Avenue: Moving in towards the center of Chanute, S. Evergreen Avenue offers a couple of schools within one mile, and also a few restaurants, including Sonic, which serves good ol' burgers, and El Pueblito Mexican Restaurant.
S. Highland Avenue: With a healthy walk score of 77 from 100, S. Highland Avenue affords a single grocery store (G & W Foods), and six restaurants, which include New China Restaurant on West Main Street, and Opie's Pizza and Grill on East Main Street.
Drivers who wish to commute to and from Chanute have it good. There are a few major highways connecting to the north, south, east, and west of the city. US 169 travels north to south, while east to west road access can be achieved by taking either US 59 or US 75. The South Kansas Oklahoma Railroad serves Chanute, in addition to northern Oklahoma and southern and eastern Kansas. For long-distance bus travel, there's a Greyhound Lines bus stop in central city.
The Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum on North Lincoln Ave makes for a pleasing few hours out and about. The museum showcases plenty of findings the Johnson's made on their frequent trips to Africa in the early 1900s, including old pioneering film footage of a number of the African tribes and wildlife. If you're feeling a bit hungry prior to starting out in the morning, head over to the Grain Bin Restaurant on East Main St, where you'll be treated to small town caf̩ American-style cuisine at its finest. Best though if you have the appetite for it, since the servings are on the over-zealous side.
