Did you know that Waverly, Iowa is the very real birthplace of Hawkeye (of Avengers fame)?
Waverly, Iowa, is located alongside the beautiful Cedar River, and its past is indeed rich and colorful. Its original inhabitants were Winnebago Native Americans, and it was first settled by whites in the 1850s. A gentleman named Frederick Cretzmeyer is purported to be the first permanent settler in the area. Then, in the spring of 1853 William Patterson Harmon arrived in the locale with the intent of establishing a town and a saw mill. Harmon purchased most of what is now Waverly from the United States Government for $1.25 per acre, and incorporated it as a town on April 25, 1859, per the State of Iowa Library.
Throughout the years, Waverly has experienced significant growth, from the beginning of rail transportation to the creation of Wartburg College, a four-year liberal-arts institution that opened in 1852. Today, with a population exceeding 10,000, Waverly is a college town with a thriving Main Street business district. It is Iowa's 17th fastest-growing city, and civic organization articles attest to its development, saying, "This city is a lively, forward-moving community with a strong base location for agriculture, commercialism, finance, and industry." Waverly is a Main Street Iowa community, participating in the National Trust for Historic Preservation's downtown revitalization program.
The above is borne out by the city's demographics, that show median income per household was nearly forty thousand dollars, and median income for a family was more than fifty-two thousand dollars. Income per capita is 3.6% greater than the Iowa average, and only 5.9% less than the National average. However, Waverly's median household income is 12.7% greater than the Iowa average and even 2.4% greater than the national average.
As you plan your move to Waverly, be prepared. Before planning visits to potential landlords, gather all the documentation you'll need -- your valid photo ID, credit report, proof of employment, and references from prior landlords. If you're prepared, you'll be able to pounce on that ideal studio apartment or town house for rent.

Waverly rents apartments, and its several well-designed, developed, and quietly secluded complexes offer one, two, and three bedroom accommodations, with all amenities and appliances. Waverly residents also benefit from its low cost of living, high education levels, myriad local amenities, and an extremely stable housing market. The cost of living index is 83, which is 13% blow the Iowa average, and 17.4% below the National average.
In addition, from Waverly's "city center" residents and even visitors easily may find groceries (three supermarkets), food and drink (20 establishments), shopping (16 stores), entertainment sources (5), and fitness (two gyms) within a mile.
For outdoor recreational activities, the city also caters to various tastes. In addition, residents and visitors may enjoy plentiful shopping at the South Side Shopping Center, Willow Lawn Mall, and Village Square Mall. Plus, every year the city organizes and hosts the Bremer County Fair.
In summary, Waverly offers excellent living conditions, top-quality and affordable housing for purchase or rent, outstanding educational opportunities and facilities, and outdoor and cultural activities that include biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing, as well as enjoying performing arts and a community symphony at nearby Wartburg College.
