At a mere 4.2 square miles Lamar does not have any real neighborhoods to speak of, but there are distinct sections of the Prowers County public seat.
Downtown: This is a well-preserved and quaint area of the city. It will remind you of a small town from the 50's, and is the hub of Lamar's shopping and services district. Most of the restaurants, bars, and nightclubs are located downtown.
Downtown Rentals: There are few rental opportunities here but some of the businesses have studio apartments on the top floor. Some have converted storage areas and such into living quarters. Employees mostly rent these, and sometimes business owners or family members, but they may occasionally be available.
The Bypass: A couple of apartment complexes are located just off Main Street on or near the Memorial Drive bypass on the east side of town.
Northeast Lamar: More complexes are in the northeast section of town off SR 50 / 305. This is the northern boundary of Lamar and the road to Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Denver.
The West Side: To the west of Main Street near downtown is the center of population in Lamar. It consists primarily of single-family homes. You will find homes for rent in this area.
The South Side: This area is not very populated but is home to the Spreading Antlers Golf Course and Fairmount Cemetery. Expect to find homes for rent with larger lots in this area.
To get around town you will need a personal vehicle. For a small town there are plenty of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs for entertainment. The Spreading Antlers Golf Course is a nine hole public course at the southern end of town. The biggest draw for Lamar residents is the nearly pristine nature surrounding the town.
Camping, fishing, hunting, wildlife photography, boating, skiing, and the John Martin Reservoir State Park are all available within minutes of a quiet suburban lifestyle.
