Edgerton, Wisconsin is a special town built on tobacco that continues to provide historical significance more than 200 years later. This town was smoking hot during the 1800s when as many as 52 tobacco warehouses lined the streets. The Carlton Hotel was a frequent meeting ground for buyers and sellers alike, reminding the booming city of where its prosperity came from. Today the history of Edgerton that's prized by many also has to do with the Pauline Pottery company's signature style, which rose to widespread popularity during the late 1800s. Many collectors consider this charming style highly valuable for its unique attributes and rarity in the pottery world.
Edgerton lies southwest of lovely Lake Koshkonong in Wisconsin, north of Rock River. Unlike many other cities of its size, it is not located adjacent to any major metropolises. Its major source of commerce comes from Route 59 and west of I-90. Once leaving the town limits, miles and miles of lush, green farmland remind residents and visitors alike that much of Wisconsin makes more from cows than cars and relies on dairy more than fine dining to support its economy. Old Roots and Traditions of the City Street sides on Main in Edgerton maintain storefronts from a bygone era. Though the businesses have come and gone over the years, the original architecture remains a testament to the resiliency of the city itself. Queen-Anne style homes still remain, showing how rich the population once was. Now the town is quieter, more reserved and calmer. An annual fair provides an opportunity for all the locals to celebrate the city's culture with memorable demonstrations and even a car show, among other festivities. Rental houses are available, but it's not going to be easy to find a big apartment complex in this region. Don't let the best opportunity pass you by while you are waiting for something else.
There are three main neighborhoods in Edgerton that you can choose from when you arrive. Even a cozy town like this one can have a variety of styles within a relatively small space. Given the laundry list of celebrities who once called this home, including several senators and a few professional athletes, the humble appearance that Edgerton portrays is one that you should not easily dismiss. There is a lot of potential waiting for you within its borders. You'll find the three primary neighborhoods are all to the south of Central Park, east of Race Track Park and south of the grand Edgerton Towne Country Club. Southern Edgerton: Characterized by one-story, single-family homes with half-acre lots and well-maintained landscaping, this area is classic Midwestern Americana at its finest. There are relatively few homes in this neighborhood as compared to the more Northern reaches of town. Amongst these homes, you are likely to find a few rooms or great 1 bedroom apartments to rent. In the happy summertime, you can expect to smell more than one barbecue on the back porch with a block party or two just for fun. Since the air is fresher and more crisp at night, counting fireflies on the front porch counts as a perfectly acceptable pasttime for everyone. Central Edgerton: The most populous area in the city, almost every home in Edgerton is located in the central neighborhood. To the east is Central Park, a large and scenic getaway from the surrounding area. Mom and pop shops are more prevalent here than Wal-Marts just to the south where the original heart of the city remains. The stores look the same, but developers have replaced some of them with cafes, restaurants and drug stores. To the west and all the way to Race Track park are the new developments that bear a striking resemblance to the suburban streets of many much larger cities throughout the country. The architecture is the only giveaway to any difference between these streets and those of faraway places. Mostly from the Victorian and Colonial era, here is a style that is difficult to find elsewhere. Eastern Edgerton: There are two things in Eastern Edgerton: golf and shoreline. There is more than a little of both. Rock River runs along the Southern edge of the town, providing an ideal location for housing. Still, there are relatively few homes built here, providing a secluded and scenic place to reside. As for golf, the Edgerton Towne Country Club provides greens that keep residents and visitors working on their back swing well into the autumn months. If you can find an opening in this otherwise largely natural area, go for it and be thankful every day for the simpler things in life.
Edgerton is a town smaller than some and yet bigger than many at the same time. There is plenty of entertainment to go around if you know where to look. For starters, a very sizable golf course takes up most of the undeveloped area. The rest is forest and farmland. Not quite "Green Acres," residents are unencumbered by the hustle and bustle of of the bigger cities. Convenient location provides the opportunity to take more trips into much bigger waters, and even more convenient Lake Koshkonong provides the opportunity to spend plenty of time in local waters too. Summer months on the banks of the lake boating, swimming and fishing are a popular pasttime that has persisted throughout the generations, and these are all excellent ways to beat the humidity in late August.
