Did you know that Lake Monticello, VA is considered Charlottesville's golf community? Now that you do, grab your clubs and see what this small town is all about!
A world of its own, Lake Monticello is a gated community surrounding a large lake of the same name and with an 18-hole golf course. Yes, you read that right. This is a golf community right here (read: tee up all you want, whenever you want to). Located southeast of downtown Charlottesville, this community is home to 9,920 people, having the time of their life on 9.4 square miles of a playground. You want to have a taste of that life too? Check out the rental housing available in this side of Virginia!
So, you're all pumped up on your decision to move to this golf community, but we're pretty sure that's about to get replaced with stress as you're going to face the tedious task of finding an ideal home for rent. But fret not. Before you let those jittery thoughts steal all the excitement away, get into this guide as we cover all the essential information you need to know about the community that you're about to call home.
No Cookie-Cutter Community
You know those gated communities where houses look almost the same? This is not what you're getting in Monticello Lake. Houses here come in variety of designs and sizes, so whether you're going solo or your whole family is tagging along with you, this neighborhood has an abundance of small homes and 3- to 4-bedroom houses for your taking. Because there are no apartment complexes in this neighborhood, you can say good riddance to those one bedroom apartments that looked like glorified closets.
Stack the Odds in Your Favor
The rental market in this area ebbs and flows. What you have to know is that this cycle is sometimes impacted by the academic calendar. You can expect large numbers of houses for rent to show up during school holidays, especially during summer. If you want to have a larger variety of options at your fingertips, stack the odds in your favor and play to the rhythm of the law of supply and demand.
Put Time on Your Side
Give yourself ample time to look for excellent house rentals in Monticello Lake if you don't want to get stressed just thinking about your looming move-in date. We're pretty sure you don't like the idea of going homeless for a couple of days, so at least two months of allotted time for house hunting would be a good idea if you're working on a definite schedule.
What You Need
Aside from a month's rent in advance, security deposit, broker's fee (if you decide to avail of their services), you'll also need some basic documents to prove that you have a squeaky-clean background. You'll need to have your ID, reference from previous landlords, rental history and proof of income to apply. Also, don't take it personally if your prospective landlord requires you to go through a credit check and asks you to pay for it. That's just how it is here.
Since this is a gated community, there are no distinct neighborhoods in Monticello Lake. However, you can be deliberate in choosing an area that suits your preference to a T. For instance, if you are lucky, you can score one of those waterfront homes that give you a spectacular view of the lake. Some of these waterfront homes are even available for seasonal renters who are just here for a short vacation. Or you can opt to live in a walkable area with lots of shops nearby. And if you live, breathe, and talk golf and you can't bear to live far away from your beloved sport, you can consider house rentals that are a short distance away from Lake Monticello golf course where a pro shop, snack bar, or practice facility would be your common hang-out.
In a nutshell, living in Monticello Lake is like living in Utopia if water and golf are your idea of heaven. Here are some of the amenities and activities you can enjoy in this community:
Sports: If your body screams for a dose of adrenaline rush and you turn to sports for it, there are many sports fields and courts within this community. Tennis and basketball courts, swimming pool, as well as softball and soccer fields spell fun, right?
Lake: The 350-acre Monticello Lake is your watery playground. You can go boating, swimming, water skiing, and fishing in this lake. Not to mention there are several beaches with picnic facilities in case you like to stay on the shore and just drink in the beauty of your surroundings.
Socialize: The Lake Monticello Clubhouse is the perfect place to hold meetings and host parties-your social life will be robust as ever if you move to this gated community.
Work: Let's get back to reality here, OK? You still need to bring home the bacon. And this community's proximity to big-name employers, including those in the insurance industry and academic, makes it a good choice in terms of work opportunities.
Find what suits your fancy? If you haven't, you could always head over to downtown Charlottesville. In a little under half an hour, you can be working that day job, go shopping, cheer at the bloodbath in Scott Stadium, or go down the memory lane at The Three Notched Road. And if all that are not enough still, Richmond is just an hours drive away too.
Now that you've found something you like, make your nest in this cozy community!
