Deer Park is divided into north and south sections by Texas Route 225, also known as the Pasadena Freeway.

North of Texas Route 225: You won't have to investigate the north area too hard for property rentals, as it is taken over by industrial works and plants abutting the Houston Ship Channel.

South of Texas Route 225: Stick to the portion of town below Route 225 and you'll find lots of options. Most of the apartment rental offerings in Deer Park are clustered in the middle of the city between the Sam Houston Tollway and East Boulevard. Golf

If golf is your thing, you'll enjoy The Battleground at Deer Park. This 18-hole municipal course boasts a demanding championship layout. The course has an historical twist in that each hole is named after an event that occurred or is related to the Battle of San Jacinto. Hole number one is named "Santa Anna" after the Mexican general who led the fight. Hole number nine is named "Nine Men" after the total number of Texas soldiers killed in the battle. Mexico lost over 600. You get the idea.

The city takes care of its citizens by providing and promoting opportunities for exercise and play. Because the weather is just so darn nice, Deer Park boasts year-round, city-sponsored adult softball leagues. You just don't get year-round ball in many other places! Adults can also enjoy basketball, racquetball and numerous exercise classes like yoga and Zumba.

The kids are taken care of, too, with basketball, football, little league and swimming. The city maintains five multi-use sports complexes and numerous playgrounds and sports fields. It is obvious that this town is focused on the health of its citizens, and if you are serious about your exercise, you'll appreciate Deer Park's help in making it easier for you.

City-sponsored special events for holidays, like the Egg-stravaganza at Easter, a Halloween haunted maze and carnival and the Fourth of July Fest are fun for everyone. The city pulls out all the stops for the holiday season with the Reindeer Dash race and walk, Christmas tree lighting, plays in the park and a lighted Christmas parade.

It's no secret that Deer Park is very proud of its connection to the birth of the State of Texas, and no surprise that it is home to the Totally Texas Festival each year. The festival has more events than you could swing a ten gallon hat at, including a parade, a fun run, a car show, a talent show and, of course, a good old-fashioned Texas chili cook off. Yeehaw!

Restaurants

Deer Park has its share of fast food for the quick bite, but there are plenty of other sit-down restaurants for a night out. Stoney River Legendary Steaks on Rand Road gets top reviews for its steaks. La Hacienda on Field Parkway will get you your Mexican fix and there is a California Pizza Kitchen, a nationwide favorite, on North Rand Road.
