Some locals may not know that although the land for Middleton was parceled out in 1863, an overflowing Boise River cut a new channel in 1872 and isolated the town on an island. The town ultimately moved to a new location in the 1880s and was incorporated as a city in 1910. Its certificate, however, wasn't issued until 1971.
Technically, Middleton is a city, and is located in Canyon County. However, its small-town feel and community vibes are most prominent. For example, most people recognize the name Sierra Jackson, who was a sprint car racer from Middleton. Ask around and most people can also tell you that Middleton is one of the oldest settlements in the state. In fact, Middleton had a stage station in the earliest days of the Oregon Trail, along with a post office in 1866 and a water powered grist mill in 1871. Although there is certainly plenty to do in Middleton, the city is also close to Boise, the state capitol and its largest city. In fact, it is just a 30 minute drive from downtown Boise. If you enjoy community events, you will have plenty of opportunities to get involved. Throughout the year, many residents attend Movies in the Park, the Harvest Festival, Push Cart Derby and other events. View Middleton City Guide
Apartment complexes with a gym offer a valuable amenity to Middleton renters looking to get fit and slash their gym membership. However, not all gyms are the same.
Make a list of your must-haves in a gym setting. Ask about the variety and age of any cardio machines. Also ask about any weight training equipment and free weights.
Consider the spaciousness of the workout area. Some apartment gyms are small. Those can create tension with tenants looking to squeeze in a workout before or after work.
If you enjoy circuit training, make sure there’s enough space to spread out and get in the workout you want.
Cleanliness is also crucial to an apartment gym experience. During your apartment tour, carefully inspect the fitness area to check for cleanliness and any extra perks. Also consider the potential savings if you can cancel a gym membership!
Towels, an attendant, flat-screen TVs, and a locked door for exclusive tenants access can all add value to your apartment gym experience.
