Atlantic, IA sits right off of Interstate 80, right in the middle of Des Moines and Omaha. You and 7,112 other people understand that this town is something special, with easy commuting access to the big cities and all of the amenities they provide, but with small-town housing prices and cost of living. It's the best of both worlds, and it helps people who simply cannot stand big city living still want the access.
When you are preparing for a move to this area, you have to start looking for studio apartments for rent early. The housing prices and market of this area ensure that many homeowners are getting into the private landlord game. It's a matter of finding a private landlord who is experienced at what they're doing, and can offer you a great deal when you move into your new home. Also make sure you have the all your paperwork ready when you do find a place you like; you'll need your photo ID, rental history, references, proof of income and a credit report.
Read over the contract carefully, or get a lawyer to look it over. Private landlords may create their own contracts or work off of boilerplate options that they find online. You want to make sure that you're protected and all of the terms are written down properly in the lease before you take possession of the property. This may slow down the renting process slightly, but it does allow you to have the peace of mind that everything is on the up and up when shopping around for a two-bedroom apartment for rent.
Atlantic is made up of two distinct areas.
E 7th Street/Whitney Street: This area is located on the west side of town, and it puts you away from the incredibly walkable town center. This neighborhood is walkable enough for many people, although it doesn't have the range of businesses that the city center has. The North Hills Golf Club is smack dab in this neighborhood.
City Center: City Center takes you to the business district, although there's little separation between the business district and the residential areas. You benefit from this by being able to walk out your front door and run all of your errands without getting in your car once.
This city is built so that you can't help but spent your time outdoors, with parks, recreation, and outdoor activities. The Atlantic Golf and Country Club offers high class entertainment, with beautiful greens and a country club that's designed to welcome you in. Atlantic City Park lets you look at the centuries old log cabin that's been in the city's history almost since it started. The T-Bone Trail helps you stretch your legs and enjoy your hike, while the downtown area is home to many small businesses. For a basic park, stop by Sunnyside Park -- doesn't it just sound so inviting?
When cooking is too much of a chore, there are tons of restaurants in the city to pick up the slack. Feedlot Steakhouse & Lounge has, well, steak and West Side Diner gets everyone talking about their sweet potato fries and banana split. For some pizza, stop by Pizza Ranch and try their garlic cheese bread and chicken broccoli alfredo along with a slice or two of pie.
