With a population whose diversity is nearly identical to that of the nation, it's no wonder that anthropologist Margaret Mead described Beloit as "America in microcosm". This all-American city has a jumping downtown scene thanks to this diversity, with plenty of live music, artistic events, and some great little shops and eateries – all wrapped up in a deep-rooted small-town feel. Just pay a visit to the Harry Moore pavilion in the summer to witness what this riverside life is all about.

The best time to go house hunting is when Beloit College is out of session and all the students leave town. Once summer ends, and all the college kids come back, you will have a much harder time snagging a rental around here.

If you are looking for a long list of amenities, then you’ll want to look at the higher priced apartments. In $450-$600 range, the most you’ll get is a laundry room and some extra storage space. However, if you are willing to spend more than $650 a month, you can enjoy long amenity lists featuring such extras as sparkling swimming pools, clubhouses, fitness centers, and sometimes a washer and dryer in the unit.

While the rental market is small and often consumed by college kids, you’ll be happy to know that the few apartments and house rentals in town are usually pet friendly. This means cats and dogs, so all of you dog lovers are in luck.

One thing that really sets Beloit apart is its diversity. We’re not just talking about black and white, though there are plenty of black and white people. No, what I'm talking about is a mix of ethnicities and ancestries. There are large concentrations of Norwegians, Swiss, Canadians, Germans, Irish, and Italians. It is truly a melting pot of cultures and a genuinely American way of life.

Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
