Fresno, Texas, does indeed have ties to Fresno, California. Supposedly, a settler from the Fresno in California came to this area in now Fort Bend County in Texas and named it Fresno.

Fresno started with a post office and a general store, but really didn't become a happening place until it built a telephone connection. Fresno, with 19,069 inhabitants according to the 2010 U.S. Census, is within Houston's range, but is absolutely its own town. Fresno still possesses that old Texas feel, and horses are a common sight. In 1990, getting a rental property or buying land was simple as the population was about six times less than it is today. The surge in the number of people has changed the landscape of the market here.

Apartment complexes in Fresno are basically non-existent. Houses account for the majority the homes here, while mobile homes make up the rest. With a changing market, though, you could be able to rent an apartment or condo soon, but houses and mobile homes, for now, are your only options.

The Water Situation

A while ago, Fresno mostly used water wells and septic tanks. However, with the construction of a water plant and installation of water and sewer lines, the majority of Fresno now has standard water services. If having such services is important to you, make sure with the landlord that the property gets its water from such lines. Most do, but it's still important to be absolutely sure.

You must pay one month's rent and deposit, and should also prove you can afford rent. That's about it!

Fresno Neighborhoods

Within the 9 square miles, there are distinct sections. Choosing a neighborhood is a vital decision. Put on your sunglasses and cowboy boots and get to it.

Teal Run: The city's oldest neighborhood, Teal Run is mostly residential. Some homes have lots of land.

Fresno Gardens: Another mostly residential neighborhood that is located in the south part of town.

Niagara: This neighborhood is near Trammel-Fresno Road and stores.

Winfield Lakes: In the northwest part of town, this neighborhood is mostly new houses. It's near Highway 6.

Cambridge Falls: Right near the town center, Cambridge Falls showcases many fresh homes.

Living in Fresno

Unless you only plan to travel about town, get a car! Driving is a must, unless you can ride a bike like Lance Armstrong or a horse like Fred Archer. Fresno drifts at its own pace, and while this town is near Houston, it is entirely unique. That's where the town's beauty lies. You can chill and listen to your favorite Willie Nelson song as you sit at the Mustang Community Center or you can head to Houston to catch an Astros game. Fresno was built so its residents could live as they pleased. That live and let live tradition is as strong as ever today. Go and live the life you've dreamed.
