Metropolitan Rent Changes from 2018-2021

2021 was a sizzling hot year for rental markets across the country. Nationally, rents soared 17.8 percent, and 149 different metropolitan areas saw prices rise at least 10 percent. To put that in perspective, in 2019 only three metros experienced that level of rent growth. In 2021, the steepest increases were concentrated in Florida, whose temperate climate and relatively low cost-of-living attracted renters from across the country throughout the pandemic. The Sunshine State is home to the seven metros where rents grew the fastest.
