With a population of around 5,300 at the time of the last census in 2010, the town is named for a small stream that flows into the river, where a large number of turtles once basked. Are there turtles in Turtle Creek? Not any more. The creek itself was named by none other than George Washington during the French and Indian War. His journals made note of the creek and it's turtles -- something he'd probably snap a photo of and post to social media today.

The community has a landmark bridge, the Westinghouse Bridge at its borders. Its picturesque arches were the world's longest concrete arch span in 1932 when it opened.
