Solon, OH, is located southeast of Cleveland and is a suburb of around 23,000 residents. The town was rated as the "Third Best Place to Live in the United States" by Money Magazine in 2011. Solon (pronounced Sew-lun) is known for its easy access to highways, its wide selection of new single-family homes and as the headquarters of several corporations.
Places to rent in Solon, Ohio run the gamut from traditional apartment-style condos to luxury rental homes. The population in Solon exploded during the 1990's, and much of the housing stock here is newer. Strict zoning keeps Solon's neighborhoods insulated from the city's less attractive commercial and industrial communities.
The majority of homes, apartments and condos in Solon use natural gas for heat. Most of the time, the heat bill is paid by the renter. Occasionally, heat will be included in the price of studio apartments to rent, but most of the time, trash removal, water and sewer are the only utilities included in the rent. As Solon is located at the edge of the northeast Ohio snow belt, making sure that your apartment or house rental has adequate insulation is a good idea.
Before setting out to find your new home, be sure to locate all of the necessary paperwork for a smooth rental process: copies of your ID, a credit report, letters of reference and a nice pretty security deposit will help you secure a spot.
Though Solon isn't all that large, the city does have several distinct neighborhoods and subdivisions. Most of the places to rent in Solon are single-family homes, although there are a smattering of low-rise, semi-detached and apartment-style condos for rent.
Chagrin Highlands: Located on the northeast side of town, Chagrin Highlands was developed in the 1990's and features large single-family homes, most of which sit on lots of one acre or more. The neighborhood is noted for its wooded setting and easy access to SR 422.
Briar Hill: Briar Hill is an established development that combines the best of country and city living. The centerpiece here is Briar Lake, which provides swimming and other warm weather water sports. Like Chagrin Highlands, virtually all of the properties here are single-family homes.
The Hunt Club: Located on the southside of Solon, this well-established neighborhood is home to a good selection of split-level, single-family homes as well as a few colonial and ranch-style homes. One of the highlights of living here is the community pool and recreation complex.
When you live in Solon, you're just a short drive away from jobs, shopping, dining and attractions all over northeast Ohio. The city sits at the juncture of SR 422 and I-271. You'll have plenty of places to walk your dog when you live in one of the many condos for rent in Solon, even if the winters here can get rather snowy. The city is surrounded by parts of the Cleveland Metroparks, including the 1,521-acre South Chagrin Reservation on the northside of town and the Bedford Reserve just west of town.
Solon is known for its many independent restaurants and several shopping plazas, most of which are located on or just off of Aurora and Solon Roads. Money Magazine cites the area's large tax base, job opportunities, affordable housing and nearby healthcare among the reasons for choosing Solon for its list of best places to live.
Of course, Solon is just forty minutes from downtown Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Hollywood Casino is also located there. The city is also just down the road from Lake Erie beaches, fishing and wineries. You can get culture in town from the city's own philharmonic orchestra.
A number of notable sports stars and entertainers call Solon home, including former NFL players Drew Carter and Bob Golic, rapper Kid Cudi and classical violinist Robert Vernon.
