Stuttgart is a traditional small town in central Arkansas that got its name from the German immigrant who settled it, Reverend Adam Burkle. The subtropical climate makes the town excellent for rice farming, which has been a big part of the local agricultural economy for over a century. It's also a popular spot for duck migration, resulting in the annual World Duck Calling Contest every November.
Moving to Stuttgart
Stuttgart is a charming, increasingly diverse community that's ideal for those who prefer a small town lifestyle. There's plenty of activity around Main Street but an abundance of peaceful countryside that makes the most of the Arkansas landscape. It is a cozy, easy to navigate town of approximately 9,300 people, most of whom live in houses or condos in the lightly wooded central area.
Neighborhoods in Stuttgart
The best way to get to know life in Stuttgart is to explore its neighborhoods.
Main Street: The central thoroughfare of Stuttgart is Main Street, which runs the entire length of the town. Two industrial complexes bookend Main Street on the north and south sides, with many apartments and businesses lining the road in between.
North Side: The neighborhood north of Highway 79 in Stuttgart is adjacent to a lot of farm land, so it has a quieter, more rural feel. It's also where you'll find Stuttgart Memorial Hospital and the small Hargrove Airport. Other than these two facilities, the north side is a mix of residential and minor industrial zones, including some new subdivisions of apartments and condos for rent.
South Side: The south end of Stuttgart below 19th Street is more spread-out than Main Street and the center of town. A commercial zone divides the south side into two residential neighborhoods with larger homes for rent and more farm land.
Living in Stuttgart
Stuttgart has a lot of natural beauty in its scenery and its community, such as Cain and Bryant Parks, to offer its residents. Classic American eats are available at Pat's Place on the south end, while Sportsman's Drive-In is a popular burger spot where Main Street meets Michigan Street on the north end. The southernmost reaches of Stuttgart house the Grand Prairie Center, a performing arts center that's part of the University of Arkansas Phillips Community College.
