An attractive residential community, Suamico gives visitors that "Christopher Columbus feel." The community has been significantly developed "just the other day" (in the 1980s) and is a nature-lover's paradise. The landscape is rural, scenic and remote -- it's where most folks come to relax for a long-term, year-round vacation by the Bay. Suamico is a village, just north of the big city of Green Bay and benefits from the resources of its neighbor. Not that Suamico needs any help. The population of only 11,346 (as of the 2010 U.S. Census) resides in one of the largest villages in the United States. At a measurement of 59.42 square miles of rich resources, Suamico is quite self-sufficient. Apart from attracting tourists to its resplendent rivers, natural habitats and hiking trails, the village also feeds its economy with a variety of commercial and light industrial products.
Moving to Suamico
Suamico is a bedroom community: people drift over to its small-town atmosphere to get away from the maddening pace of nearby cities of Green Bay, Milwaukee and Chicago. Folks come here to be near jobs, terrific schools and housing. In many respects, this village is a natural escape and with such a large land mass, the options to choose your best get-away location to fit your priorities are massive. So, what type of housing options are available in this locale?
Suamico embarked on a robust housing development plan only in the last two decades. A walk around this mostly residential community will open your eyes to the age and quality of homes, the majority of which are less than 20 years old. For the home seeker the choice is an exciting palette of old colonial models and estate homes blended with modern Acadian styles and condos. These homes decorate different parts of the community.
Cost of Living
The earning power is high in Suamico, and so is the cost of living. The typical townhouse for rent in Suamico requires digging deeper into your wallet. Housing and real estate values were not spared from higher-than-average prices compared to Wisconsin's average. The fact is, Suamico has a good, stable economy and there are rich resources on the land that allow folks in the community to live a great quality of life. Most homes are regal-looking, occupying properties with plenty of acreage. Just living near the water, on a large property, away from the chaos of the city life seems to be worth the financial pinch.
Rental Tips
It's usually the earlier the better that rings true in finding the home you really want, especially if it is catered around a deadline. Give yourself at least one month to scout around and find yourself a place in a preferred neighborhood. After doing your research online, set an appointment with realtors, and use the opportunity to get a few pointers on what is required of you, the tenant, to secure a lease contract. Your new landlord will ask for the standard reference documents and proof of your ability to pay the lease. Landlords are entitled by law to ask for up to two months' security deposit, which can be substantial on your wallet, if you're not prepared. Budget for this upfront double amount in addition to rental application fees, for administration purposes. Consider that your dear pet will attract an additional cost, depending on the policies of your lease.
Neighborhoods of Suamico
Suamico has a small population size relative to its land mass at 36.6 square miles (after subtracting 23.06 square miles of water) of land. Each neighborhood of Suamico offers a different culture of neighbors, commuting times and housing styles. So if you are looking for a home, it all depends and what your goals are.

Living in Suamico
Most folks use a car to get to their destinations rather than take the metropolitan bus system. Suamico is located next to the Bay of Green Bay. It's almost second nature for folks to spend leisurely days doing various water activities. There are boat landings on the Suamico River for fishing and boating access whenever you want. The village also provides numerous neighborhood parks and top-notch athletic and recreational facilities, including the nearly 70-acre Calavera Springs Park.
Shopping
The Lineville Shopping district offers grocery stores, bakeries, restaurants and specialty shops to residents. Also, the historic buildings of Vickery Village in downtown offer more restaurants and shops to residents.
The village is an all-rounder. It offers residents a good quality of life, even if they have to walk or drive a little more to get to them.
