Vandalia Apartment Renter's Guide
Vandalia Apartment Renter's Guide
Overview
Vandalia is named after a guy who gave up on reaching his destination. A local legend says that town founder Benjamin Wilhelm was actually looking for Vandalia, Illinois, but couldn't find it, so he decided to stop where he was and just name his new town Vandalia, Ohio. Close enough. And then he made himself the mayor of his very own town. Pretty sweet gig, don't you think?
That make-do spirit is still part of this Dayton area suburb today, where the 15,246 residents really appreciate their easy lifestyle and access to the James M

Moving to Vandalia
Regardless of where you find a home for rent in Vandalia, you'll be able to watch airplanes fly by every day. What's also cool about living here is proximity to major expressways. However, before you can live it up in Air City, you have to find a place to live. Within the city's 12.4 square miles, you'll not only have convenience, but you'll also have a good deal of selection.
Renters Have It Good
As a renter, you have a market that caters to you. With a slightly better than average percentage of renters, that means you have lots of choices between a variety of rental houses and apartments, and enough open listings throughout the year make life here for renters as easy to find as a beer at Oktoberfest. Choose among a wide variety of apartments for rent at Brookfield North Apartment Homes or get a house for rent near Taylorsville MetroPark. So have a seat, grab a cigar, and soak it all in.
Possible Issues
Well, realistically, it's not all private jets and fine cocktails. You will realize that some houses and duplexes for rent in the Vandalia area are a little older, although many have been updated. The vast majority have aged better than that whiskey in your cabinet, but some may have a few problems. Check for issues throughout each pad you tour, and inquire with the landlord if you notice anything wrong. The idea is to not be held responsible for a problem you didn't create, unless you are Harry Potter and can fix anything that's broken with a click of your wand.
Getting the Pad
On average, you will need roughly 10 days to locate a home, though it could take longer during slower seasons like fall and winter. Spring and summer experience more rental turnover, so those are the best times to look. When you find a place that you like, be ready to hand one month's rent and a security deposit to the landlord. Other information you'll need will be a credit score and proof that you can make rent.
Vandalia Neighborhoods
How close to the airport do you want to be? If you live a life like James Bond, you may want to be close. If you like to chill, you may want to stick to other areas.
City Center: Near Dayton International Airport, City Center also features Super Subby's, Helke Park, and ample housing.
Cassel Hills: Cassel Hills Municipal Golf Course, White Oak Shopping Center, and the Great Miami River Recreational Trail highlight this east and northeast neighborhood.
Poplar Creek: In the south, this neighborhood has easy access to downtown Dayton.
Living in Vandalia
People would fly everywhere if they could, but driving is just easier. The city is also known as The Crossroads, due to the crossing of Interstate-70 and Interstate-75 in town. At every corner, it seems like people are moving here, whether it be to go eat at Christy's Pizza, walk at Taylorsville MetroPark, or play at the Vandalia Recreation Center. However, there are times when the city sits still, but don't be fooled--it's ready to take flight at any moment.
