Home of an Ohio ghost town and former host to a bordello madam-busting Elliot Ness, South Euclid has two unique claims to fame.
These days, South Euclid is a tranquil town full of hard-working people. Located due east of Cleveland Heights, South Euclid is a small, diverse suburb that offers less-hurried alternatives to the thriving, pulsating pace of the nearby metropolis of Cleveland. South Euclid is located in bona fide Rust Belt territory. The salt-of-the-earth ethos that "hard work pays off" still runs heavy and true through the veins of many residents. However, Cleveland's evolving status as an IT and advanced medicine corridor attract many diverse working types. Add in the fact that John Carroll University is three miles away and Case Western Reserve is five miles away, and this only helps illustrate why living in South Euclid is a popular choice for all types of people.
Moving to South Euclid
Whether you are seeking to rent or buy in South Euclid, shoring up your credit is a universally good idea. Renters will want to have solid rental history or excellent references -- or both. In many cases, providing proof of steady employment can give you a big boost in renting a place. Having first and last month's rent wouldn't hurt either. It's common to place a certain amount of money down to 'hold' a place in this region, so make sure all of your financial ducks are in a row. Otherwise, happy house (or apartment) hunting!
South Euclid Neighborhoods
If you're looking for a place to live that individually suits you, there's a good chance you will find it in one of these neighborhoods.
Bexley Park: The Bexley Park neighborhood includes sections that cover Bexley, Ellison, Lambert and Harwood. Bordered on the north edge by the titular Bexley Park recreational area, the eastern edge by South Belvoir Boulevard and the western edge by Warrensville Center Road, this 2.3 square mile area mainly consists of single-family homes. However, there are some apartment homes and condominium units available.
Avondale-Argonne: This area is considered the historic district of South Euclid because its grounds were once home to Bluestone. Argonne, Ardmore, Avondale, as well as Delroy, Villa and parts of South Belvoir extending from Mayfield to Bluestone are considered part of the neighborhood family. There is a big revitalization campaign happening here that includes 'green initiatives' and curb appeal contests. If you're one for progressive communities that love to recycle, this could be a good fit.
Ammon Parkside: The neighborhood's western boundary is flanked by Parkside Boulevard, with Ammon Road connecting it to the eastern boundary of Trebisky Road. Small, but tightly knit, the Ammon Parkside neighborhood thrives on community connectivity. So, if being close to your neighbors is a plus, you could be a great addition to this area.
Cedar Center: The Cedar Center neighborhood is a blended commercial and residential district. Many of the city's one-bedroom apartments and condominium units are here. Popular for college students and others looking for rental homes in South Euclid, Cedar Center is close to downtown businesses and offices, as well as shopping venues.
Dorsch Circle: This neighborhood's circular moniker is derived from the cul-de-sac that serves the area. With its main street being Dorsch Road, Dorschwood, Edenwood and Burger Roads all connect to it, forming a perfect residential square (so many shapes!). Single-family homes dominate the Dorsch Circle area. If you're on the hunt for three-bedroom houses for rent, you may want to look into Dorsch Circle.
Pla-Win: The Pla-Win neighborhood includes Grantleigh, Brookline, Plainfield and Winston Roads (hence the Pla-Win name from the latter two). There is a good deal of focus on community events, like block and yard sales, potluck dinners and music festivals. Winston Park is a go-to gathering spot on gorgeous spring days and gentle summer nights. If you like friendly play where you stay, look into Pla-Win.
Living in South Euclid
Welcome to the city that once hosted Elliott Ness...when he was on his way to apprehend a madam running a bordello out of a high-profile supper club. Parts of South Euclid are also reincarnated. Bluestone, a sandstone quarry town where native bluestone was frequently mined, once flourished -- and subsequently vanished. Although its prohibition-era cathouse and turn-of-the-century mining town atmosphere is gone, South Euclid is here to stay.
Euclid Creek Reservation, part of the vast Cleveland Metropark's recreational park system, is a popular recreational area for hikes, picnics and leisure. If you dig adventurous spelunking through a big city but want to rest your head without bright lights and sounds interrupting your sleep cycle, this little spot in Cuyahoga County might be the place you want to call home.
