Maynard is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, located just about 20 miles west of Boston. It's basically considered a suburb of Boston, thought it very much has its own kind of vibe. The population is 10,106 and the people are a warm and welcoming New England community. The Assabet River divides the town from west to east but don't worry because there are seven road bridges and one foot bridge that can get you from one side to the other. The town gets a lot of snow and has some pretty chilly winters but it also has super nice, balmy summers. You can get into Boston via car or by hopping on the MBTA Commuter Rail at South Acton. Once you're in Beantown, the sky is the limit! You can take in a Red Sox game, head to Cambridge to hit up some of the local bars, or dine at one of the delicious restaurants downtown or in the North End. There's a reason it's not super cheap to live in Maynard but residents seem to feel that its worth the high price tag to enjoy the peaceful suburban life and also get such quick, easy access to downtown Boston.
Moving to Maynard
If you're thinking about renting an apartment in Maynard, you are in good shape! The town has a decent vacancy rate and close to 30% of the units here are rentals, so you should be able to find exactly the type of place you're looking for, whether it's a condo for rent, a luxury apartment or a single-family home. Maynard is a densely populated space which means that there are a lot of units in a small amount of space.
It's a great idea to look for apartments here in the summertime when the weather is pleasant and you won't have to battle through any fierce winter storms. The residents here don't complain about the weather too much, though -- they seem to have gotten used to the great amount of snowfall the area gets every year. Summertime is also when students change apartments and so there's usually quite a few more open rental properties around this time.
Try to make appointments to see a variety of places all over town. That way you'll get a feeling for what is available out there and what the prices are like, as they can fluctuate over the year. You'll also want to ask yourself what you're looking for in an apartment. Do you want to be close to one of Maynard's beautiful green spaces or do you prefer to be closer to the highway and easy transportation? Do you like living in a high-rise apartment complex or do you prefer something smaller or a stand-alone unit. These are important considerations in your hunt for a new apartment.
In order to venture out in search of your dream apartment, you're going to need three things: 1. Patience 2. Rental documents 3. A checkbook backed by a solid bank account.
Renting an apartment here usually requires putting down two month's rent up front and sometimes a security deposit on top of that! This means that you'll need to have a big sum ready to go before you even start hunting. You're also going to need to piece together a copy of your ID, your credit report, bank statements, pay stubs, letter of employment, references, rental application and anything else you might need in order to land the apartment of your dreams. Your checkbook will help you land your apartment for sure! But don't write a check unless you're sure your new place has everything you need. You don't want to get caught up in something less than desirable because you didn't check out the fine print!
