It's no secret this region has a lot of interesting history. The namesake of Foxborough is indeed the honorable Mr. Fox, selected by a general court because of a speech he made to Parliament in support of the colonies in 1778. So, although the citizens of the town didn't choose it, they got a great historical name nonetheless. Today, the town is probably most famous as the home to Gillette Stadium, the big regional venue that hosts big events throughout the year. Oh, and it's home to the NFL New England Patriots and MLS New England Revolution! While it's officially home to under 5,700 people, it is part of the greater population megalopolis that essentially extends from Boston to Washington, D.C. That said, there's still a lot of green space in these parts. Just over 20 miles southwest of Boston and just under 20 miles northeast of Providence, Rhode Island, it's close to some very large cities. The fact that it's right alongside Interstate 95 makes transportation convenient to areas north and south.
Moving to Foxborough
Get a Plan
This is a popular place to live, no doubt about it. Vacant housing rates typically run about half of the national average. While that's not killer tight like a few cities, it is low enough to mean you have to be on your game to land the kind of pad you want to call your own. Start as soon as you are thinking of moving by making a list of the properties you are interested in. Not to make it sound like too much work, but the more thorough you are, the better your results will likely be. Go through and select the places to live in Foxborough that most closely match the amenities and locations you like. Want a pool and sauna? Or do you prefer a rental apt close to shopping and restaurants and don't care about a pool? The more research you do, the more likely you'll get what you want. Be prepared with a full list of references from where you have lived before and have a good credit check available. Don't be surprised if you are asked to pony up first, last, and security deposit when inking the lease.
Other Considerations
Hey, it snows here! Of course, that means most of the moving takes place when the weather is better. That can help you get the home you desire, if you play those cards right. Think of it like going on a vacation. The best deals are in the slow season, right? OK, we know you aren't looking for a few days in the sun -- which makes this even more important! You can save big cabbage by looking at properties where the owners want someone quickly during the slow season. Also, think about where you might be commuting to for work, school, or just driving around town. Whether relying on public transportation or driving, where you choose to live can cut your commute time and give you extra hours to enjoy or game or a brew at a place like Waxy O'Connor's Irish Pub.
Foxborough Neighborhoods
When it comes to the town and its immediate area, think of Interstate 495 as the south boundary, Interstate 95 as the eastern edge, Highway 1 as the western, and the area around Neponset Reservoir as the northern limits. Within that zone there are a few separate communities that have enough notable characteristics that they can be called distinct Foxborough neighborhoods.
Rock Hill/Cocasset Lake: This part of town is anchored by the Rock Hill cemetery and the lake next to it. You will also find Booth Playground, a large park area with ball fields and places to play. A huge green space fans out to the west and the residences are primarily single-family homes on large lots.
Downtown: It's a charming and picturesque downtown with a lot of historic buildings. Roads fan out like spokes from the Foxborough Town Common and it's a good place to look for a studio apartment for rent, perhaps in one of the historic mixed-use structures that dot the area.
I-95 Corridor: Near the freeway you will find some newer construction with a nice selection of single-family homes and the occasional apartment complex, the latter of which are located mostly along Cocasset Street. It's important to note that although close to the freeway, there actually isn't access from Cocasset Street.
Neponset/Chestnut Green: Near the lake you will find some nice, but rather pricey, homes with waterfront access. There's also the Chestnut Green area, a mix of residential, commercial, and retail that has its own common area with community events and nice eateries located around. It's a great bet for a neighborhood to rent an apartment in that is close to everything you want to be near.
Living in Foxborough
Besides the obvious benefit of being close to a great sports venue, there's a lot of other reasons to like living here. Sure, the Patriots might not win the big game, but you can score with a nice place to call home. From being conveniently located to all manner of job and educational opportunities, there's also the abundance of green space and outdoor activities. From biking and hiking to a Cape Cod day trip, you're not likely to get bored. For a good dinner out, try Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse at Patriot Place or maybe Asian Ginger on Central Street. Take in the scene Jake N Joes Sports Grille for good brews and sports action or try Skipjack's for great seafood offerings. With everything that's close by and still some great things to do in town, it's no wonder this is a desired place to call home. Enjoy the history, the natural beauty, and the cultural attractions of this part of New England for yourself when you move here. New England charm meets city sophistication and suburban convenience.
