Versailles is the county seat of Woodford County, Kentucky. The city is situated near Lexington in the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area and had a population of 8,568 at the 2010 census. Founded in 1792, the city is also near Louisville and the state's capital city, Frankfort. Versailles is part of Kentucky's famous Bluegrass region, which is known for its farmland and horses -- and blue grass? Not exactly. The region is covered with "Poa pratensis," a species of grass that is green just like every other type you've seen. The name simply "stems" from the pretty blue flowers the grass produces when it's allowed to grow to its full height. Woodford County is also known for its bourbon, hence the Woodford Reserve Distillery in town.
Moving to Versailles
Versailles has a wide variety of apartments for rent, so finding the right spot shouldn't prove difficult. Make sure to bring along important paperwork like proof of income and W-2s, and don't forget to save up a little extra for the deposit and first month's rent. Winters are quite chilly here, and summer is sure to make you break a sweat, so consider moving when the weather is a bit more forgiving. After all, frostbite and heat strokes aren't the best accessories for a successful move.

If you enjoy having a thick wallet, Versailles is your kind of place. The cost of living here is 16 percent less than the national average, and the same goes for median rental rates. Cha-ching (in a good way)!
Getting around Town
Traveling around this city almost certainly requires a car -- or at least knowing someone who has one! When it comes to driving, 79 percent of locals drive, but a whopping 16 percent carpool (which is 24 percent more than the national average for that form of transit). The average one-way commute is roughly 21 minutes, which is 19 percent less than the national average, as well, so you'll have more time for some after-work fun. Lexington's Blue Grass Airport sits only seven miles outside of town, so you'll have an easy time planning farther excursions. Martha Layne Collins Blue Grass Parkway (known by locals as simply "Blue Grass Parkway") is the main route through town, and Lexington Road provides a quick commute to (you guessed it) nearby Lexington, which is just 14 miles outside of the city.

Living in Versailles
Versailles is full of fun things to do, and one of those things is eating well. Ricardo's Grill and Pub, Wallace Station Deli and Bakery, Mi Pueblito's, Woodford's China Buffet, El Tapatio, Taqueria Becerra and The Glitz Restaurant are just a few of the excellent restaurants to be tried in the city.
After getting your fill, burn some calories by exploring nature at Woodford County Park and Big Springs Park, which both sit near Lexington Road. At the city's northern edge, you'll find Merewood Park and Stonegate Park.
Pour yourself a strong one at the Woodford Reserve Distillery, a stop on Kentucky's bourbon trail. For other libations, stop by Woodford Inn, Halftime Sports Bar & Grille or Ricardo's Pub & Grill.
There's definitely no shortage of horse farms here, either. The area is renowned for its thoroughbred training centers and features distinct thoroughbred horse farms like Airdrie Stud, Ashford Stud, Ashview Farm, Big Sink Farm, Brookdale Farm, Buck Pond Farm, Fallbrook Farm, Gainsborough Farm, Glenwood Farm, Lane's End Farm, Pin Oak Stud, Richland Hills Farm, Rose Hill Farm, Stonewall Farm, Sun Valley Farm, Two Bucks Farm, WinStar Farm and Three Chimneys Farm. Whew! Many of these offer tours, so saddle up for a horse lesson. In fact, here's one now: Thoroughbreds are racing horses, while Standardbred horses are commonly referred to as trotters and have to meet a set "standard" of speed. Saddlebred horses are known for their incredible jumping abilities. Study up -- you'll want to be on your A game when it comes to horse knowledge around here. Lenore Farms is the place to go to view Saddlebred types, while Brittany Farms feature the Standardbred variety.
Versailles is a lovely place to call home, and despite its name, the "blue" grass region is an area where the grass is actually greener.
