Acton, north of Los Angeles, takes you away from the major California cities and puts you on the outskirts of Angeles National Forest. You can't entirely escape the big city influences that reach this town, as most of the work in this area gets you commuting into L.A. However, it also provides you with a small, affordable town that has some of the most breathtaking natural sights you'll see in this part of California. Another significant natural treasure nearby is the Shambala Preserve. This preserve houses African lions, tigers, leopards, and other big cats.
Moving to Acton
Not all of California is prohibitively expensive. Acton, with a population of 7,596, ends up being quite affordable considering that it's within commuting distance of L.A. Sierra View Apartments is one of the few apartment complexes in the area, meaning that you have to do some digging and preparation before you nail down an apartment to rent and settle down in this location. The first thing to keep in mind is that it's fairly easy to get between this area and L.A., as train lines connect nearby cities and towns. The houses and apartment buildings in this area combine the old with the new, so there's no cohesive designs that signify a classic Acton experience. Instead, newly build mansions can be found near classic single family homes, with the grand natural beauty available to wow you every step of the way.
Take the time to watch rental listings in this area carefully, working with a real estate agent if possible. You don't get a lot of availability, as this is a smaller town, so advance planning is necessary to get the type of housing for rent you truly desire. Since this is still California, many of the homes are going to be in the upper range, although you're still getting a better deal than L.A. proper or San Francisco.
Neighborhoods in Acton
Acton is small, but still has two distinctive neighborhoods.
Sierra Highway / Crown Valley Road: This area is located in the northern part of the city and has access to larger land plots. In turn, this has lead to expansive homes, manors, and mansions being built in this area of town.
City Center: City Center is walkable and provides you with more enticing rental prices than other areas of the city. Most of the restaurants and grocery stores are available here, so if you want to stock up on food without loading into the car, this is the best area for you to live in.
Living in Acton
Acton considers itself an old homestead kind of area, with valleys, mountains, and other natural images evoking a mental image of the old days of the Wild West. It might seem like it's out in the middle of nowhere at first glance, but this residential area gets you to L.A. in under an hour. You have the peaceful atmosphere that makes for a tranquil living environment, and you combine it with the job opportunities that a city like L.A. has to offer. It's truly the best of both worlds, making in an ideal place to call home in Southern California for almost anyone.
Most of the recreational activities that you'll enjoy after you pick up a one bedroom apartment or 2 bedroom apartment for rent is of the outdoor variety. All terrain vehicle off-roading is particularly popular, which is no surprise when you take a look out your window. Hiking, horseback riding, and geocaching are all areas that this area excels at offering. The neighborhood is somewhat walkable, although you're going to want a car for most situations in Acton.
