City Guide for South Charleston, WV

South Charleston, WV has a unique reason for its name. It's not located to the south of Charleston at all, but actually to the northwest. South Charleston gets it's name due to the fact that it's almost exclusively located south of the Kanawha River.

South Charleston's census data makes it sound a bit like Willy Wonka's factory where nobody's ever seen going in or coming out. In 1990, the population of the city was 13,645, it was 13,390 in 2000, and then it creeped up to 13,450 in 2010. In short, South Charleston has the look and feel of a small town -- something along the lines of "a modern day Mayberry" wouldn't be an exaggeration, albeit with slightly more secure banking options. What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in South Charleston, WV

Finding an apartment in South Charleston that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
