"The ship was the pride of the American side / Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin / As the big freighters go / it was bigger than most / With a crew and good captain well seasoned" - (Gordon Lightfoot, "The Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald")
West Allis, or Stallis, as locals fondly call it, is a city located on the west side of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. This is where friends remain friends even after a night of intoxication and drama. This is where residents raise their kids just like their parents before them. This is where attending a high school football game is the highlight of mostly everyones week. And this is where most people know everyone in the neighborhood by their first name. The city of 61,000 people started out as a territory with settlements here and there. The development of transportation facilities brought about community growth in the area. Think you can blend in with the lifestyle and culture of good ol Stallis? Time to go home hunting then! Finding an apartment in West Allis that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.
While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.
If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
