It's located 17 miles northeast of the city of Lubbock, and some 280 miles to the west of Dallas, which represents a drive of a little less than 5 hours on a decent day. Other than the fact that many people from Slaton commute for work, the main industries in the city itself include manufacturing, retailing, and construction works.

How Long Will it Take?
There's not a lot happening in Slaton in terms of the availability of housing for rent, and if you are looking for a two-bedroom apartment or three-bedroom apartments, you may be hard-pressed to come up with the goods if you don't afford yourself plenty of time. West Crosby Street: This area offers no less than eight schools within a single mile of the neighborhood, including four elementary, two middle, and two high schools. It also features easy access to a number of dining establishments, of which the Slaton Steakhouse and Ms. Zapata's Mexican Restaurant, both on West Division Street, are two of the more popular. West Lynn Street: Eight schools reside within a single mile of West Lynn Street, and if you have a diehard passion for a really good steak, there's Slaton Steak House on West Division Street just a few minutes away.
North Terry Drive: Situated a stone's throw away from US Highway 84, North Terry Drive also affords easy access to a number of local amenities, including shops and restaurants. One of the more popular eating establishments is JJ's Cafe on West Division Street.
Living in Slaton
For the car driver, Slaton is served by US Highway 84, as well as Farm to Market Roads 41 and 400. The nearest airport is some 24 miles to the northwest at Lubbock.
What's to do in Slaton? The Art on the Square is certainly worthy of a visit, where a number of new art galleries, together with antique shops, are situated on the square that surrounds the City Hall. A few of the galleries and shops are open for limited hours, but several are open for business over extended hours. The most notable of these establishments is arguably Multiplicity Art Gallery, which offers art in a whole diversity of styles and at prices to suit every pocket. You're also at liberty to take part in their regular workshops and classes, whereby you'll learn to paint like Claude Renoir - or maybe not.
If you're looking for a fast stop for food in Slaton, then try Slaton Bakery on 9th Street, where you'll be treated to the most delicious pies in the entire area! And while you're at it, you may be fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of a free cookie sampler, which the staff members at the bakery refer to as a Russian Rock, as in "brick hard." So be careful not to crack your teeth when you take a nibble!
