Once called Maxwell Creek after early settlers James and Hannah Maxwell, the town changed hands -- and names -- to honor another settler, James Murphy, by 1888. A man who was generous with his property, he donated land used to build the Murphy Train Depot.
Don't worry about Murphy's Law showing up in this pleasant city, which was officially founded in 1958 and considered a part of the greater Dallas/Fort Worth metro region. Big-city amenities nearby notwithstanding, there's plenty to do in this city of just over 17,000 residents, too. Two miles south of the famous Southfork Ranch, this just-under-three-mile enclave offers a country-living vibe that includes a number of parks with hiking and biking trails. See more
Studio apartments could offer the best of Murphy living at a less expensive price tag than larger units. Look for the best buildings near entertainment, dining, and public transportation or highway access.
Ask about the square footage of studio apartments in Murphy during your tour. Even a little extra space in another building can offer more room for storage or an additional chair. Consider the layout and what you can accomplish before you sign. You should have enough room for your bed, a small sitting area, and a dining table. You can always get creative and loft your bed to save on space underneath or install a fold-down table or desk that tucks away.
