Little Hewitt, Texas, just located outside the notorious Waco, actually has a couple of movie mentions to its credit. Probably the most recognizable is Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, in which the pair is headed to a wedding in one of the character's hometown, Hewitt.
Hewitt, along with several neighboring communities and some unincorporated areas of McLennan County, is served by the Midway Independent School District. There are six elementary schools, two intermediate schools, one middle school and one high school. The climate of east Texas is much like most of the South. Summers are hot and humid (thanks to the Gulf of Mexico), topping out at a wet and sticky 95 in July. This often feels more like 100 with the heat index. Winters are significantly milder, bottoming out in January around 33 degrees. The area gets about 33 inches of rainfall and averages about one inch of snow per year. The population of Hewitt is 13,368, as of 2010. The area grew slowly and steadily until the 1970s, when it started growing like weeds in the garden. Jobs here are an even mixture of professional positions and unskilled labor, with much of the workforce serving in sales, education and office jobs. Ask about the square footage of studio apartments in Hewitt during your tour. Even a little extra space in another building can offer more room for storage or an additional chair. Consider the layout and what you can accomplish before you sign. You should have enough room for your bed, a small sitting area, and a dining table. You can always get creative and loft your bed to save on space underneath or install a fold-down table or desk that tucks away.
