In the early part of the millennium, Chester qualified for state tax breaks to draw in industry and waterfront development. Additionally, Harrah’s Casino and Race Track and a soccer stadium and have been installed in town. However, rehabilitating an entire impoverished city is a long and arduous process, and many residents have seen little benefit from the new industry.

North of I-95, the neighborhoods have nicer rentals as they were developed as suburbs during Chester’s brief golden age. Widener University and the Crozer-Chester Medical Center are located in this region. Around Widener you’ll find some studio apartments for rent with some short term lease options that cater to students.

Farther north you’ll find the occasional rental home in some suburban developments, as well as nicer apartments for rent. One good thing about living in an economically depressed city is that there are tons of inexpensive apartments for rent. In general, you’ll only have to pay between $500-700 for a two bedroom.

Pet friendly apartments in Chester are hit or miss. A lot of that desirable housing to the north is less likely to allow four-legged residents. Allow yourself plenty of time to locate and secure an apartment if you’re relocating with your dog.
