Wallington is a city rich with history, founded in 1894, but it actually has even earlier ties to Native American Indian tribes that lived and hunted in this area for thousands of years before that. It has a rich archaeological history, with many Native American Artifacts being found in the community. It is a very densely populated area with a population of roughly 11,335 people according to the 2010 Census in a borough that is little more than a square mile.

Moving to Wallington

As you can imagine, fitting thousands of people within a square mile means that this small area is quite dense. As a result, the majority of the residences available will be apartment rentals. Neighborhoods in Wallington

Wallington is comprised of three main neighborhoods; each with their own distinct flavor and advantages. Be sure to research thoroughly before settling on one.

Borough Center: Borough Center is the historic municipal center of the Wallington, it is considered the middle child of the three neighborhoods in terms of price. Most of the municipal buildings are in this area so whenever you need to go to the town hall you'll be coming to this part of town. Most of the residences here are historic buildings built in the 1930s and 1940s and are comprised of mostly small studio and one bedroom apartments, with some scattered three and four bedroom complexes also available. Another option to consider is renting one of the single family homes that are also available in this area.

Carlton Hill: In general the neighborhood of Carlton Hill in Wallington is one the pricier areas to reside in. Expect to find some nice condos here, in addition some small single family homes two or one bedroom apartment complexes. It also has a number of great restaurants and a World War II Monument commemorating those enlisted men from Wallington who died during the war.

Nelkin Dr./ Stevens Rd.: The neighborhood around Nelkin Drive and Stevens Road generally has lower rent than the other two neighborhoods. It has mostly medium-sized and high rise apartment complexes with apartments ranging from one to four bedrooms in size. There aren't many vacancies in this area so finding an apartment here may be a bit of a challenge.

Living in Wallington

Kielbasa, kielbasa! Hope you like Polish food because Wallington has a huge Polish community busily making fresh kielbasa and pierogies that are the envy of other Bergen County boroughs. Most of the residents get around by mass transit, particularly the regular bus routes that travel throughout the town and into New York City.

Wallington is surrounded by other larger towns all within easy access so even if you get stuck for something to do in Wallington, there is usually other entertainment only a quick bus, or car ride away. There is bowling, and a winemaking school that runs regular specials. Additionally there are number of fine restaurants featuring Chinese, American and Polish cuisines in each of the neighborhoods. Additionally, Meadowlands Arena where the New Jersey State Fair and many other attractions, expos and concerts are held is only a short ten-to-fifteen-minute drive from Wallington.
