City Guide for Rockaway, NJ

Thomas McCarthy's The Station Agent (2003) was filmed at a number of distinct locales in Rocakway, NJ.

Nestled within Morris County is the Borough of Rockaway, with a friendly downtown and quaint neighborhoods within its 2.1 square miles. The Borough of Rockaway is comprised of a spirited closely-knit population of approximately 6,500 residents and is a stone's throw away from the major highways, including Routes 80 and 46. In its olden and golden days when its mining heritage was in full swing, it was still referred to as Rockaway Village, a portion of Rockaway Township. Before it officially became established as a separate Borough in 1894, residents used the Morris Canal for travel and commerce. Today, there are plenty of roadway arteries and mass transit, such as the Lakeland Bus Lines, to still help transport residents to neighborhoods nearby and places outside of the borough, including Manhattan. What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in Rockaway, NJ

Finding an apartment in Rockaway that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
