City Guide for Pine Hill, NJ

It is believed that at one time the famed Al Capone stayed in a home in Pine Hill. Perhaps he was in hiding at the time, but yeah, don't think Geraldo Rivera would find much if he were to investigate now. According to legends, there are tunnels that were built underneath one of the man-made lakes in the area, designed to allow for fast, invisible escape for anyone, such as Capone, from a basement speakeasy that was in use during Prohibition days.

The very creative name, Pine Hill, came about because of the city's close proximity to a hill with lots of pine trees. No, really! Originally part of Old Gloucester County along with five other municipalities, Pine Hill has the tallest point in all of Camden County, according to the New Jersey Almanac. Pine Hill was incorporated in 1929; however, as stated, it was once a part of Gloucester County, in what was Gloucester Township, which was incorporated back in 1695. As of the last census count, Pine Hill was home to a little more than 10,000 residents. The weather here is what some would call just dandy: winters are cold, but not harsh, and summers are warm, but not overbearing. Pine Hill is the picture of what you would expect of a postcard town. The overall size of the town is relatively small, with the entire borough encompassing just under four square miles. When you figure in population size, there are just over 2,600 people per square mile. With about 60 businesses in the area, you'll get to know your fellow residents well and enjoy a sense of community. See more

What to keep in mind when looking for dog friendly apartments in Pine Hill, NJ

Finding an apartment in Pine Hill that accepts your pet may not be easy, but it’s very possible. Keep in mind, most of the time you’ll have to pay a premium for bringing your dog along in your new apartment. Some apartments require you to pay monthly pet rent, others will ask for a non-refundable pet fee or a refundable pet deposit.

While landlords and property management companies have varying pet policies, most of them limit the number of dogs you can bring to your apartment and include breed and weight restrictions.

If your pet falls under some of the restrictions outlined in the pet policy, it’s still worth asking the landlord if they can make an exception for your dog. Preparing a pet resume ahead of time could help you build the case for your furry friend. Make sure to include information on behavioral training your dog went through over the years and proof of vaccinations. If you can, include references from your former landlord and/or neighbors.
