Nixa, Missouri, is a small city with a big heart. At just under 20,000 residents it's one of the largest municipalities in Christian County and takes up about eight-square miles of space. Beyond that there is plenty to see and do in this city and if you give it a chance you will find you are quite happy in your new home.
Renting a place
This is Nixa, not Los Angeles. Show up with first and last months' rent, and you should be covered. Most places won't even require a security deposit! Well, if you have a pet they may be interested, but even then it will be more of a token than a commitment.
When applying, be sure to include a reference or two and even the staunchest of landlords will likely melt. The application and form is just a formality, though it's not unusual for them to run a cursory credit check. As long as you are in decent standing with your last landlord, you have nothing to worry about!
Neighborhoods
As with most of Missouri, the area was originally settled as farmland. However, as a result of the history, neighborhoods developed outward from the town center. There are four distinct neighborhoods here, and they each offer something a bit different for people looking to find apartments in Nixa:
City Center: The is an odd place because you have trendy shops and cafes right alongside an old hardware store. That's the way it often is in areas like this and it gives the place a unique vibe. Expect older apartments here that have been updated. Studio apartments are also popular. As you move out a tad from the business district you will find older, more established homes. Many of these homes date back to the founding of the city. Some have been converted into lovely studio apartments and condos, some into duplexes for rent.
Nicholas: Looking for a home straight out of a 1950s sitcom? Well, this is a great place to find one. There are a few apartment complexes here, but mostly you will find single-unit homes and a few duplexes. Expect friendly neighbors, lots of lawns and picket fences.
Massey: This is a more hip and trendy area. You will find a few apartment communities here that offer plenty of amenities. Finding one with a pool is good because the summers tend to be a bit on the warm side. You are close to everything important in the city apartments in this neighborhood. You can easily get to restaurants, grocery stores and are just a quick trip to most of the best shops in the city.
Westside: This neighborhood is nothing like Westside Story, so relax. It's just located on the west side of Nixa, hence the name. This nice and friendly area is made up of apartment complexes, townhouses and duplexes. There are a few rental single-unit homes here as well. You will notice a lot of green space in this area; enjoy it. There are several parks with walking trails that might be of interest.
Enjoying Nixa
People are relaxed and friendly here, so enjoy the invitation to dinner and ballgames. Local sports, especially little league games, are a community affair. So are the local festivals. There are plenty of restaurants, and both Chinese and Mexican restaurants predominate the ethnic cuisine market. If you are looking for something with more local flavor, try Lola's for incredible pastry and sandwiches, while Coyote's Nixa Grill is famous for its wings.
