The name "Temperance" was suggested by one of the early landowners' wives. She was a member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.

Temperance is an unincorporated community in Bedford Township, Monroe County in the state of Michigan. It has a population of 8,517 and takes up about 4.7 square miles on the map. It sits just north of the Michigan and Ohio border and could technically be considered a suburb of Toledo, it's so close to the Ohioan city. It's located right off of Route 24 and is close to the Erie Aerodrome. The area has a rich history and residents enjoy a slow pace of life but a high quality.
