The origin of this city's name isn't clear, but one amusing speculation is that it came about during the 19th century, when more and more people were crossing the Mississippi River, heading west and stating "west we go."
Westwego, Louisiana, is located alongside the Mississippi River just west of the world famous Audubon Zoo. Its geographical location ensures hot, humid summers and cold, wet winters, so there's a lot of wildlife here -- which is great news if you love fishing, bird watching, or hunting. Westwego has a population of a little over 8,000, but it is a pretty sizable neighborhood. Unlike a typical Louisiana town, there aren't many swamps here, but there are a few creeks spread around just to remind you that you are in fact still here in Louisiana. Since Westwego is a suburb of New Orleans, it's a highly desirable place to live -- in other words, properties are in high demand. See more
Studio apartments could offer the best of Westwego living at a less expensive price tag than larger units. Look for the best buildings near entertainment, dining, and public transportation or highway access.
Ask about the square footage of studio apartments in Westwego during your tour. Even a little extra space in another building can offer more room for storage or an additional chair. Consider the layout and what you can accomplish before you sign. You should have enough room for your bed, a small sitting area, and a dining table. You can always get creative and loft your bed to save on space underneath or install a fold-down table or desk that tucks away.
