You'll find decent rentals throughout town, mostly houses. Many folks prefer the northwest side of town off Highway 30, but you'll find some nice rentals on the east side, too. Life in the City

There are several hiking, biking and walking paths here, especially along Old Plank Bike Trail that runs through town. Frankfortians enjoy bowling, hockey, and ice skating. Community events rank high on their list, like Chili cook-offs, Kite Flying events, and Wine Tasting. Shopping in town makes for great fun in the charming historic district. A wine shop on Grange Street specializes in wines from all over. Plenty of dining places are clustered around Main Street, ranging from awesome American food at the White Street Cafe (located in the historic district's Trolley Barn,) to Italian (not just pizza,) great sushi, wonderful wiener schnitzel, and of course classic beer and burgers. These provide an excellent selection of choices, no matter your craving.

Getting Around

Sorry to say it, but a car is a necessity in this part of Illinois. Places you'll want to go are spread out in Frankfort. Once you drive to where you want to walk, it's great, but you generally have to get there first. If you find housing for rent in the central area, you'll be able to walk along shady sidewalks. There is bus transportation, and there are two Amtrak stations that serve the area (both within 10 to 11 miles.) The closest airport is approximately 20 miles away.
