We could make a joke about the name, but instead we should be thanking the townspeople of Bridgeview. The other choice for a name was "Oketo", and quite frankly we can't think of a way to joke about that name.

Located just outside of Chicago, Bridgeview is considered a village despite having a population of 16,000 people. Its motto, “A well balanced community,” came about because they were obsessive enough to divide their zoning into equal parts residential, commercial and industrial areas. We're not sure why this is so important, but it makes the townspeople happy.

Moving to Bridgeview

Bridgeview is 13 miles southwest of the Chicago Loop, so you can work in Chicago and then drive home to the peace and quiet of the village, which offers a nice mix of houses, townhouses and apartments. So getting a two- or three-bedroom apartment if you have a small family won't be a problem, and studio and one-bedroom apartments are there for the taking in most of the town.

Because it's a small town with a lot of renters, you want to come prepared for at least two weeks of house hunting. Landlords will also like you a lot if you save them time. Walk in with your referrals at the ready, a credit report, proof of income and a recommendation letter from your previous landlord, and you should be able to get them to lower the price or talk them up to an all bills paid apartment, with some decent bargaining skills.

Bridgeview Neighborhoods

S Roberts Rd.: With low rental fees, this is a very popular neighborhood. So, naturally, it's hard to get a place. You won't have to break the bank, but your spirit may be broken after getting one or two houses swooped out from under you if you aren't careful. Act quickly or you may lose out.$$

Village Center: This is the most expensive part of the town - prices here are comparable to the national average. $$$$

Frontage Rd.: There are many culturally diverse shops and restaurants throughout this neighborhood, so if you like variety (and want to be the hippest cat in town), this is the place for you. $$$

S. Harlem Ave.: If you want something cheap, this neighborhood works great. It's as safe as the rest of the town, and it offers the cheapest housing in the entire village. $

Living in Bridgeview

Bridgeview is a cozy, safe, friendly community, with interesting shops and restaurants, with an emphasis on Middle Eastern food. It's also a good place to raise a family. If you want to do a lot of shopping or get away from small-town culture, you're going to have to drive into Chicago to find it. However, If small-town life is your cup of tea, grab a nice book and stay a while. You won't regret it.
