Downtown: The proximity to dining and nightlife, shopping at the Pedestrian Mall and all the things that city life offers — tree-lined streets, festivals, concerts, parks, walking tours, theatre — are what draw people to the area. Established and historic homes coexist with hi-rise apartments and luxury condos. Often times, apartment companies will charge a yearly fee for residents to park off street, but snow removal and lawn care is often provided around here, as well as cable.Convenience (bus routes available), walkability and city life are guaranteed.

East/Southeast: Dwellings here consist of medium to large single family homes, townhomes, studios and apartments. Apartment life offers social activities, city bus stops, playgrounds, & controlled access. The east side puts you in proximity to the mall, the aquatic center and the highway.

West Side: The west side has some definite curb appeal. It features a mix of established/historic homes with newer homes and apartments. Minutes from downtown, you feel the excitement of the city but are still set back enough to enjoy cozy living opportunities. It's close to the airport, and there are shuttle services to downtown. Close to the airport and located on the city bus line route, the west side is ideal for commuters and residents. Transportation:

Iowa City Idiosyncrasies:

Weather here can be extreme. Winters usually dip below freezing, with highs in the 30s. So if you have always dreamed of making snow angels, make yourself at home. Summers typically aren’t too hot, but when they are warm they are warm. Because this is a Midwest plain state, there can be a dryness in the area. That said, summer months may bring tornadoes, floods and bad storms, so take caution.

The most appealing thing about Iowa City is that it far surpasses expectations. There is nothing boring, common or uncultured about this city. It boasts exciting culture, fabulous shopping (hit up the Pedestrian Mall—or Ped Mall, as the locals say), a strong economy and gorgeous parks.
