Fort Dodge is considered the commercial center of central and northwest Iowa, meaning there’s pretty much nothing in terms of retail attractions in a 40-mile radius. Lucky for you, you’ll find plenty to do in the area’s shops, bars and restaurants.
For outdoor recreation lovers, you’ll find that once the bitter winter thaws out, the region offers many outdoor attractions. The city maintains several parks and trail systems that keep Fort Dodge residents busy during the summer months.
Unfortunately, Fort Dodge real estate caters to homeowners, so there isn’t much in terms of apartment rentals available around the city. Allow yourself plenty of time to secure something nice.
What you’ll find in Fort Dodge apartment rentals will be concentrated in a couple of areas. Staying north of the city center, you’ll find some perfectly decent apartment complexes in the northeast region of town, close to the much beloved Crossroads Mall and nearby shopping. These apartments tend to be well-maintained, and some even come with amenities, including gyms and clubhouses.
There are two major exceptions to the “stay north of town” rule. The first is the small area located just south of the city center and Oleson Park. This neighborhood tends to be more settled and dominated by homeowners; however, you can occasionally find lovely rental homes in this area.
If you’re traveling to Fort Dodge on an extended, but temporary, stay, or you don’t require a ton of space, you’ll be happy to know about the second south of town exception. Located in the far southwestern region, Sun Apartments just west of the Trinity Regional Medical Center was a former dormitory that was renovated to offer executive suites and studio apartments for rent, with both long and short-term leases. The majority of these spaces are all clean, well maintained, furnished apartments for rent.
With a tiny rental market, pet-friendly rentals can be hard to come by in Fort Dodge. If you’re relocating with a furry friend, consider looking into rental homes, where you stand a better chance of being able to negotiate a cat or dog-friendly lease.
