First incorporated as a city back in 1882, Orange City was given its name because of all the orange groves planted in the city and the surrounding area. In 1894 and 1895, the Big Freeze destroyed the citrus industry in Orange City, and nearly all of citrus industry in the State of Florida.

Moving to Orange City

If you are considering a move to Orange City, you won't need to give yourself as much time as you'd need when migrating to other locations (we'll wait while you breathe that sigh of relief). Orange City has a variety of living spaces that seem to enjoy a higher rate of availability than the average unit in this region. That doesn't mean you shouldn't get a head start though, since Florida is a destination as a whole due to the weather, so start looking a few months ahead of a planned move. Also keep in mind that the population in Orange City is growing at a significant rate.

Neighborhoods

Breezewood Park: Breezewood Park is a quiet little subdivision located just off of S Volusia Ave. If you are looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom ranch-style home to rent, then Breezewood Park would be a good place to start your search. There are a few duplexes and condos as well, so if you need an apartment to rent you may want to take a look at this neighborhood.

Orange City Estates: Orange City Estates lies just south of Saxon Boulevard, with Interstate 4 running right through the center of the area. Orange City Estates is also where you will find Goose Lake, Lake Emerald, and Trout Lake for those looking to take in the scenic views or just enjoy nature. Whether you're looking for luxury apartments or a condo for rent in Orange City, this area should be able to provide what you seek.

Orange City Hills: The Orange City Hills area of the city has a variety of different home types. While most rentals are the typical ranch style homes found in Florida, there are also condos for rent, and even a few two-story homes.

Orangedale: Want to stay on top of the newest rental opportunities? This is the neighborhood to watch. Orangedale is a previously undeveloped mostly wooded area of the city, located just west of Veterans Memorial Parkway. This area may be used for development in the future allowing for many more homes, condos and or apartments.

Rolling Acres: Rolling Acres is another mostly undeveloped area in Orange City, so while there are a few businesses in the Rolling Acres neighborhood, you won't find any apartment rentals in the area, at least not yet. The land that makes up Rolling Acres could be developed in the future.

Getting Around Town

If you need an alternative means of transportation other than putting miles on your car, and you don't want to wear down the tread on those new tennis shoes, then Orange City has you covered. Lynx offers Express bus service from Orange City to Orlando -- the route is operated Monday through Friday, and an estimated more than 20,000 people use it daily. If you are catching the Express bus to Orlando, you may want to take advantage of the Park 'N Ride lot at Saxon Boulevard in Orange City, allowing you to drive to and from the Express bus line. Orange City is also within 29 miles of 5 different Amtrak stations, with the closest two being in Sanford (one which is an auto train), and others in Winter Park, Daytona Beach, and Orlando. While Orange City doesn't have it's own airport, the nearest is Daytona Beach International Airport just a short 20 minute drive away. There are also several taxi companies located within the city limits, with even more in the surrounding area. Don't want to hail a taxi? Yes, cabbing it isn't for everyone. Fortunately, there are also several limo companies in the area that offer something a little more upscale. Keep in mind this is Florida though, and chances are you'll want to walk or ride your bike to enjoy the beautiful weather as much as you can -- that's just another perk of living in Orange City!
