I hear the clarion bugle calls at Fort Carson when conditions are just right, / Sounding "Reveille" at break of dawn to the mournful sound of "Taps" at night! / "Reveille" 'wakes soldiers from their well-deserved rest to begin another day / Of training to protect our freedoms, though they do it for very meager pay! -- Robert L. Hinshaw, CMSgt, USAF, Retired
If you're a member of a U.S. Army family, then you're in luck, because that's the only way you're finding places to live in Fort Carson, an Armed Forces installation. Strictly speaking, you won't find apartments or house rentals in the civilian sense. (Those who want to live off-base typically head for nearby Colorado Springs.) But physically speaking, the residences on base have the same kitchens, porches, garages, and backyard sprinkler systems of the houses in the rest of Colorado. Plus you get access to such perks as parks, recreational areas, and fitness centers, all courtesy of the U.S. government.

Studio apartments could offer the best of Fort Carson living at a less expensive price tag than larger units. Look for the best buildings near entertainment, dining, and public transportation or highway access.
Ask about the square footage of studio apartments in Fort Carson during your tour. Even a little extra space in another building can offer more room for storage or an additional chair. Consider the layout and what you can accomplish before you sign. You should have enough room for your bed, a small sitting area, and a dining table. You can always get creative and loft your bed to save on space underneath or install a fold-down table or desk that tucks away.
