The largest unincorporated town in Merced County, Delhi is home to over 10,000 individuals. Delhi is a center for agriculture and commercial and retail businesses in the area and is considered the fastest growing community in the county. Adjoining Highway 99 north of the Merced River, Delhi is 20 miles from Merced and only three miles from Turlock. State Land Settlements at Delhi began in 1919. Six miles south of Turlock, the land settlement program was started by the state of California to encourage and improve land development. Delhi began with an original 230 settlers who owned the land they worked. Agricultural settlers shared land, supplies and work. The settlers were selected by the State Land Settlement Board and were carefully questioned to determine their fit for the cooperative program. The goal was to improve settlers' living conditions. Ask about the square footage of studio apartments in Delhi during your tour. Even a little extra space in another building can offer more room for storage or an additional chair. Consider the layout and what you can accomplish before you sign. You should have enough room for your bed, a small sitting area, and a dining table.
