Bay Point is a town of many names. Although called Bella Vista - or lovely view - until 1993, this community was called West Pittsburg.

Bordering lovely Suisun Bay, the McAvoy yacht harbor adjoins the community of Bay Point, which is just west of the city of Pittsburg, near Concord, CA. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) rail system has a terminal here, and the town is also serviced by the California Delta Highway and the 680 Freeway. Stake Point is the closest spot to the bay in this pretty little community - perhaps Bay Point should consider another name change! Nearby Ambrose Park offers plenty of charming green space, and local youth and adult recreation and sports activities keep people busy when they're not sailing or fishing in the bay. This is a community with a pleasantly nautical feel and about 21,000 residents.

Neighborhoods in Bay Point

Suburban Bay Point is a neighborhood in itself, with commuters who primarily take their own vehicles to work - and commute about 15 to 30 minutes each way. A solid mix of owners and renters in all walks of life live here, in properties that range from medium to small single-family homes and small apartment complexes. While some homes are fairly historic and date back to 1940, most were built between 1970 and 1999. Small cafes and shops dot the area, including many that are within walking distance of homes and apartments.

Living in Bay Point

The bay is obviously a prominent feature of this town from its name to its geography. Suisun Bay was named for a Native American tribe that lived in the region. It's a fairly shallow estuary that rests at the spot where the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers form the entrance way to the Sacramento and San Joaquin River delta. There's a large tidal marsh nearby: Suisun Marsh, the largest in California. Bird lovers flock along with their feathered friends to watch migratory fowl. Interesting flora and fauna exist here for nature lovers to explore.
