Valley shares the "Greater Valley Area" with the communities of Lanett, LaFayette, and West Point, Georgia. Many residents joke that West Point is where the famous United States Military Academy is, but the military academy is actually located in New York. The communities of Valley, Lanett, LaFayette and West Point share the Chattahoochee River. Valley was formed in 1980 when the villages of Fairfax, Langdale, Riverview and Shawmut combined and incorporated.

Living in Valley

The Columbus, Georgia television and radio stations service Valley and the surrounding areas. Valley is convenient to the comparatively larger cities of Auburn, Opelika and Fort Benning, as well as the Alabama state capital of Montgomery. Affordable apartment rentals are open in each of these cities, just a short drive from Valley.

The Chattahoochee River provides lots of activities, including fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Many of the house rentals available are close enough to enjoy the Chattahoochee on a daily basis. Many residents cross the state line to buy lottery tickets, especially when the jackpot climbs into the hundred million dollar region.

Valley is in a humid subtropical climate. Its nearness to the Gulf of Mexico means hot, muggy summers, but usually extremely mild winters. Freezing temperatures reach this far south more often than the panhandle of Florida, but extremely cold weather is rare. It hardly ever snows.
