Fairfield, AL is one of Birmingham's most booming suburbs. Founded in 1910, the town was originally called Corey (Corey was the name of a famous executive of the U.S. Steel Corporation). Eventually, the named changed to Fairfield, because the president of U.S. Steel moved and had a home there. There's lots more history in Fairfield; in addition to the many famous people who lived there, President Theodore Roosevelt gave the dedication speech at the town's dedication ceremony.

This part of town is active and bustling, so it's a good place to be if you like to see your neighbors out and about and you like a little bit of activity around where you live. Like to eat out? This isn't the best part of town for you, since there aren't too many restaurants in this part of the city.

Southern Fairfield: Southern Fairfield may be considered the hub of town -- maybe because it is home to the mall! There's obviously lots of shopping to do here, as well as places to eat, since there are lots of chain restaurants around this area. Lucky for you, if there's not only shopping here, but stuff to do outside, too! The area is home to Midfield Park, which not only has green grass to run around in, but also a nice stream.

Living in Fairfield

In addition to a sense of history, there's a lot going on in Fairfield and nearby Baltimore, making it one of the most bustling areas of the deep south. One of the main attractions in Fairfield is the Western Hills Mall, which even draws people from nearby Birmingham. Western Hills has been open since 1969 and has a lot of big, discount stores, including a Wal-Mart Super Center. For people that don't like to shop and don't enjoy small town suburbia, the drive to Birmingham is easy. It only takes about 10 minutes by car, and you can even hop a bus to make the trip. Of course, you'll never run out of things to do in Birmingham. You can enjoy the animals at the Birmingham zoo, or take in famous paintings at the Birmingham Museum of Art. The fight for Civil Rights in America is a huge part of the history and culture here, so check out the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and the famous 16th Street Baptist Church while you're in town. If you don't want to leave town to be entertained, try spending time in the lovely Fairfield City Park. There are lots of sports to be played there!
