Willmar is a city of trees and lakes and all-American living. And, I do mean all Americans when I say all-American. Immigration has changed the face of this city, with a rising number of locals immigrating from Latin America and Northeast Africa. It's a wonderful diversity for such a small, quiet city. Though, for a small city, Willmar fares pretty well as far as local entertainment. There's lots going on here, from lakeside fun to bowling to fine dining to live music. And, the price isn't too bad either. Cheap apartments for rent are an easy find, with plenty of places in the $500 - $800 range. Even lakeside living can cost less than $600.
Wandering what types of amenities to expect? Well, most places come with on-site laundry facilities, maintenance, picnic areas, and playgrounds. There are also apartment rentals with walking and biking paths, a great feature for all you active renters. Or, if you're looking for an athletic club, there's plenty of apartments for rent near the newly opened YMCA athletic club.
Those with pets will be happy to know that it's not too difficult to get a pet friendly pad around here. Cat friendly apartments are especially easy to find, though those with dogs may need to do a little extra legwork in their hunt for a pet friendly pad. Pet fees typically cost about $300 per pet, with an additional pet rent around $20 per month.
Families that are new to town should pay this area a visit before making anything official. Like most cities, Willmar has it's good and bad areas. There is some crime, which may seem like a heck of a lot if you're from Minnesota. However, compared to crime rates in other parts of the country, life here is all sunshine and daisies. Neighborhoods where the lifestyle is a little more wild will be easy to spot, and quiet, family-oriented neighborhoods can be found by driving around the city for a day.
